More retail stores opened in the area, leading to an increase in the amount of activity on the once-quiet streets. Then, there was a sudden pause.

The people of Madras lived in fear as they were faced with possible air raids from Japan, which caused them to prepare to evacuate. The shops were closed; the streets were empty; and T. Nagar, which was beginning to come to life once again, became quiet for a couple of days.

However, like most stories, this was not the ending to the story of T. Nagar. After some time, after everything had settled, the people returned, and the shops reopened. T. Nagar resumed as it had previously, except it was now moving at a faster and stronger pace than ever before.

Over the years, the original small textile store grew into a large area with many stores. Ranganathan Street and Usman Road became two of the busiest shopping streets in all of India.
